Valley remains under lockdown on 7th day amid Corona Virus scare

SRINAGAR, Mar 25: Normal life continued to remain out of gear in Kashmir on 7th straight day today in view of the preventive lockdown imposed by the administration as a precautionary measure to prevent Corona Virus spread.
Markets were as usual deserted across Kashmir while government offices remained closed on account of official holiday. Public transport was off the roads; however skeletal movement of private vehicles could be seen on deserted roads.
To ensure that government order is implemented in letter and spirit, police and CRPF sealed roads with concertina wires and iron blockades at many places in Srinagar and elsewhere in the valley. People with substantiated reasons were only allowed to move around that too after proper checking of identity cards.
However majority of the people preferred to stay homes fearing exposure to deadly virus which so far has affected eleven people including a female in Kashmir.
Pertinently four more people of a Tableegi Jamat (religious group) were tested positive for Corona virus taking toll to 11 in Kashmir.
People associated with emergency services including media and officials of health department were however allowed to move.
Civic body, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) have also erected hoardings reading “stay home, stay safe” at many places in Srinagar to create an awareness among masses about Novel Corona Virus or COVID-19.
Government has already ordered closure of all educational institutions, clubs, pubs, gardens, hotels, restaurants, health spas, indoor and outdoor stadiums in Kashmir as a precautionary measure to prevent Novel virus from spreading.
Police continues to use vehicles fitted with public address system asking people to obey government orders.
Train services from Banihal to Baramulla axis continues to remain closed following government lockdown in the valley amidst potential threat of COVID-19.
Reports reaching here from other parts of the valley including north, south and central Kashmir suggested that a total lockdown was witnessed in these districts and people stayed indoors to avoid getting contracted with Corona Virus.
