Covid-19: 4 more test positive, number of cases jump to 8 in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Mar 25: Four more persons today tested positive for the Coronavirus disease taking the number of such cases in Kashmir to eight.
Jammu has already reported Covid-19 cases.
Taking to twitter, government spokesman Rohit Kansal tweeted," 4 more persons, all from Bandipora, tested positive today. Preliminary findings suggest they were close contacts of Srinagar patient who tested positive yesterday. All 5 reported to have participated together in religious event."
Following the surfacing of news Coronavirus cases, the administration enforced more curfew restrictions today. Even the grocery shops, vegetable and chicken shops which used to remain open otherwise were also closed down in most areas today. However, pharmacies were open.
Yesterday, three patients two from Srinagar and one from Badipora were tested positive.
Two doctors and 11 other paramedic staff of SKIMS medical college Srinagar were sent into isolation as they came in direct contact with a corona virus positive case.
A suspected coronavirus patient, with travel history to Hungary, escaped from the isolation ward of Chest Disease Hospital Dalgate here this afternoon. However, he was traced and removed back to hospital.
A resident of Batamaloo Srinagar, the 25-year-old youth, according to the doctors, is a ‘strong suspected case’ and the result of his test is awaited.
He was admitted yesterday and his sample has been sent for test. Last week also, a female patient suspected of COVID19, had escaped from the Chest Diseases Hospital.
A returnee from Saudi Arabia, she was later traced and readmitted. Her test reports came out to be negative, officials said.
The four persons who tested positive for Coronavirus today are from Hajin area of Bandipora district.
Reports said shortly after the development; administration swung into action and contacted those who were in contact with the affected patients.
Chief medical officer Bandipora, Dr Tajamul told media that it may be a long chain as these infected people participated in religious events in different parts of Jammu and Kashmir and have come into contact with number of people. “We are trying to identify all, who came into contact with them,” he said.
He said two persons of a Bandipora family were shifted in ambulances to SKIMS Srinagar, as they were in close touch with these infected persons.
Reports added that after receiving an input that a Bandipora Imam was also in close contact with these infected patients, police detained him immediately.
The samples of the said Imam will be collected and will be sent to laboratory. The Imam has been kept in isolation.
Reports quoting officials revealed that the infected four persons (names withheld) were in close touch with Hyderpora Srinagar patient and all are associated with Tableegi Jammat.
These infected persons have spent a couple of days at a Darul Uloom in Samba district of Jammu region. They have also spent 10 days each at Hajin and Ajas areas of Bandipora district.
They said family members of the infected persons have been quarantined and some of them shifted to hospitals.
As the news broke, Samba Administration quarantined over eight persons in a local hospital. All these eight persons were part of the religious event, in which five people who are tested positive in Kashmir were present.
“After receiving information that four new cases surfaced in Bandipora and recently the patients were present in a Samba seminary, we without taking any chances, quarantined eight persons and are looking for those who also participated in that religious event,” deputy commissioner Samba told media.
