Covid-19: Biggest jump in cases as Coronavirus scare intensifies

JAMMU, Apr 4: The cases of the new Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in J&K rose to 92, with 17 more people testing positive for the infection on Saturday as the J&K recorded its highest single-day jump from a day before, while the central and J&K governments ramped up measures to avoid community transmission of the outbreak.
In all seventeen more people have tested positive for novel coronavirus in Jammu and Kashmir, taking total number of cases to 92 in J&K.
Three new cases were tested positive in Udhampur, while 14 new cases have been reported from Kashmir division taking the toll of active number of cases in Jammu division to 21 and in Kashmir division to 71.
The fresh cases were reported from Narsoo village in Udhampur district of Jammu region, government spokesperson Rohil Kansal said.
"Three more positive cases reported today from Narsoo, Udhampur. All contacts of a positive patient from Udhampur with travel history abroad," Kansal, Principal Secretary (Planning and Information), tweeted.
Official sources told that among those who tested positive include 8 persons admitted to GMC Baramulla. Five other persons are admitted to SKIMS while another one is at Chest Disease hospital Dalgate, one of the Kashmir exclusive Covid-19 management hospitals, they said.
As per officials, out of these 92 COVID-19-affected people, 87 are active patients as three persons two from Jammu and one (first COVID-19 patient) from Kashmir have been discharged while two others died. Among the active cases, 68 are in Kashmir and 19 are in Jammu.
However, two persons were put under Home quarantine in Roopnagar Domana respectively under the supervision of the District administration Jammu keeping in view spreading of Cornavirus in the locality as a preventive measures.
The administration had already urged upon the locality members living near the areas to maintain social distancing where they had been put under home quarantine in their Houses keeping in view of Cornavirus outbreaks is concerned.
"The blood samples of both the persons were sent for testing and are waiting for their test reports," locals revealed.
As per Media Bulletin on Novel Corona Virus (Covid-19), till date 28545 number of travellers and persons in contact with suspected / positive cases have been put under surveillance. 10606 in Home Quarantine (including facilities operated by Govt). 86 in Hospital Isolation, 682 in Hospital Quarantine. 12795 in Home surveillance. 4376 completed their 28 days surveillance period. 1397 samples have been sent for testing. 1250 negative. 92 tested positive (86 Active Positive, 4 recovered, 02 Deaths). 55 reports are awaited. 17 new positive cases have been reported today in UT, 03 from Jammu Division and 14 from Kashmir Division.
The government asked the people to stay indoors, strictly implement social distancing measures, disclose recent travel history to COVID-19 affected countries and report any contact with positive cases voluntarily.
People who are not suffering from medical conditions or having breathing difficulties may use the handmade reusable face cover, particularly when they step out of their houses. These face covers could be made out of clean cloth available at home, which needs to be thoroughly cleaned and washed before a face cover is stitched/made. The face cover should be prepared in such a manner that it can cover the mouth and nose completely and can be lied over the face easily.
It is advised that two sets of such face covers be made so that one can be washed while the other is used. Hand washing would still remain essential criteria and hand should be washed before wearing the face cover. There must not be sharing of face covers and a face cover must be used by only one individual.
Religious leaders are further appealed not to allow & carry any social ceremony including solemnising marriages at religious places that can defeat the purpose of social distancing and make people vulnerable for COVID-19.
General public is advised to avoid unnecessary visit to hospitals, in case anyone develops fever, cough and difficulty in breathing, seek medical advice promptly. People should call on Covid-19 helpline number so that they can be provided correct medical advice and directed to the right health facility, if needed.
In case of any emergency people can avail free ambulance services 24x7 at their door steps by calling on toll free No. 108. Pregnant women and sick infants can avail free ambulance services by dialling toll free No. 102.

People must lake basic precautions for personal hygiene; frequent hand washing with soap & water; and observing coughing & sneezing etiquettes. Public is advised to strictly follow the advisories issued by the Govt, from time to time.
People are urged to rely only on the information released by the government in this regard through the daily media bulletin to print & electronic media. People are advised to refrain from spreading rumours and pay no heed to them at the same time.
