NEW DELHI, May 17: The Congress on Sunday hired some 600 buses to carry the stranded migrant workers in Uttar Pradesh to their homes in Rajasthan but they were stuck at the border with Rajasthan as the Uttar Pradesh government refused permission to cross the border.
An upset Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi pleaded with UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to grant permission and allow the Congress to help the helpless people who were otherwise trying to walk back home on foot.
"It is no time for politics. Accept the request and let police release the buses stuck at the border," she said.
In Lucknow, the Congress leaders who had played role in getting the migrant labourers on the buses found charges being levelled on him for flouting the lockdown rules and not following the mandatory social distancing in packing the buses without worrying about the possibility of spread of the corona virus from their act.
An AICC spokesman said the UP Govt has categorically refused to use the Congress buses that are parked at the UP border with Rajasthan for the past six hours with the migrant workers on board. "Once again, it shows their anti-poor character, he said. The migrant workers wanted to alight and walk into Rajasthan but police prevented them from even coming down. The Congress volunteers on board of the buses were trying to get food for them, hoping that the UP government may send own buses to ferry the workers to Rajasthan.
