No let-up in Corona deaths in J&K, tally reach to 21

Dy CMO among 85 persons test positive, tally rises to 1585

JAMMU, May 23: The death toll from an outbreak of Coronavirus in J&K has climbed by 21 with the daily tally rising.
The number of new cases was broadly steady, growing by 85 on Saturday and taking total tally to 1585, this indicating the growth curve of new infections is increasing day by day.
For the last ten days daily tally of deaths reported from Kashmir, now the most worst-affected region of J&K, suggesting the situation is not improving there.
A 55-year-old woman from Urnhal area of south Kashmir, who had tested positive for COVID-19, died at the SKIMS Soura on Saturday, taking the overall death toll due to the infection in Jammu and Kashmir to 21.
Medical Superintendent SKIMS Soura, Professor Farooq Jan told that the woman was admitted to the hospital’s isolation facility and had underlying ailments including chest infection. “She had tested positive for the novel Coronavirus earlier and died today,” he said.
Urnhal area in terms of revenue falls with Anantnag district but comes under Medical block Qaimoh in neighboring Kulgam district, sources said.
With her death, the toll due to the Coronavirus in Jammu and Kashmir has risen to 21—19 from Kashmir and 2 from Jammu division.
A medical officer posted in Bandipora and a pregnant woman were among 80 cases of the COVID-19 infection in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, taking the overall tally to 1,569.
Professor Farooq Jan, Medical Superintendent SKIMS told GNS 39 samples returned positive among the samples processed at viral diagnostic lab of the hospital. He said 5422 samples were pending.
Nodal officer for Coronavirus control at SKIMS Soura, Dr G H Yatoo, told that among the fresh cases, 35 are from Kupwara, two from Srinagar while one each is from Pulwama 30-year-old man from Khrew Pampore and Baramulla 40-year-old man from Rafiabad.
The Kupwara cases included two women one 18-year-old and another 20-year-old besides 33 menaged between 19 to 66 years residents of Daripora, Gulgam, and main Kupwara having travel history to Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttrakhand and Punjab, sources said.
The two Srinagar cases confirmed at SKIMS included 24-year-old male from Rambagh and 30-year-old woman from Qamarwari
Dr. Salim Khan, nodal officer for COVID-19 at the Government Medical College Srinagar told that out of 620 samples processed at Microbiology Lab of CD Hospital here, fourteen returned positive.
Sources said that among the cases they include six from Anantnag 63-year-old woman and three women—aged 40, 43 and 62 years besides two men—one 23-year-old and another 53-year-old—from Imoh area.
Four are from Kulgam—20-year-old woman from Kariwa and three65-year-oold man and two women, one of them aged 40-years-old, from Khaloora while three are from Reshipora Pulwama13-year-old boy, 34-year-old woman and 36-year-old man from Reshipora Pulwama and a 50-year-old doctor Deputy Chief Medical officer Bandipora, a resident of Habbak Srinagar. The remaining tests came positive in GMC Jammu and private labs. Four new cases reported from Jammu, 1 from Billawar, Kathua, Ramban 19, Kishtwar 1, Poonch 1.
According to the daily Media Bulletin on novel Coronavirus (Covid-19), out of 1569 positive cases, 774 are Active Positive, 774 have recovered and 21 have died; 02 in Jammu division and 19 in Kashmir division.
Moreover, 54 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, 02 from Jammu division and 52 from Kashmir Division.
The Bulletin further said that out of 124074 test results available, 122505 samples have been tested as negative till May 23, 2020.
Additionally, till date 130197 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 32056 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 74 in Hospital Quarantine, 774 in hospital isolation and 26686 under home surveillance. Besides, 70586 persons have completed their surveillance period.
Providing district-wise breakup, the Bulletin said that Bandipora has 139 positive cases (including 01 case reported today) with 09 Active Positive, 129 recovered, 01 death; Srinagar has 179 positive cases (including 03 cases reported today) with 54 Active Positive, 119 recovered (including 20 cases recovered today), 06 deaths; Anantnag district has 272 positive cases (including 06 cases reported today), with 159 Active Positive, 109 recovered, 04 deaths; Baramulla has 136 positive cases (including 04 cases reported today) with 34 Active Positive, 98 recovered (including 07 cases recovered today), 04 deaths; Shopian has 127 positive cases with 21 Active Positive, 106 recovered (including 04 cases recovered today); Kupwara has 164 positive cases (including 36 cases reported today) with 94 Active Positive, 70 recovered (including 21 cases recovered today); Budgam has 63 positive cases, with 26 Active Positive and 35 recovered cases and 02 deaths; Ganderbal has 27 positive cases with 12 Active cases and 15 recoveries; Kulgam has 198 positive cases (including 05 reported today), with 184 Active Positive and 12 recoveries and 02 death and Pulwama reported 25 positive cases (including 04 cases reported today) with 16 active positive, 09 recovered.
Similarly, Jammu has 72 positive cases (including 04 cases reported today) with 40 active positive cases and 31 recoveries and 01 death; Udhampur has 33 positive cases with 11 active positive case, 21 recovered and 01 death; Samba has 20 positive cases with 13 Active Positive and 07 recoveries; Rajouri has 10 positive cases with 06 active positive cases and 04 recovered; Kathua has 41 positive cases (including 01 cases reported today) with 35 Active positive and 06 recovered (including 02 cases recovered today); Kishtwar has 08 positive case (including 01 case reported today) with 07 active positive case and 01 recovered; Ramban has 44 positive cases (including 14 cases reported today) with 43 active positive and 01 recovered; Reasi has 04 positive cases with 03 active positive and 01 recovered, Poonch has 06 active positive cases including 01 case reported today while Doda has 01 active positive case.
The Bulletin said that the breakup represents districts from which the patients have been traced or are ordinarily residing.
The advisory has informed the public in general that all passengers/returnees coming to UT of J&K, whether by road, rail or air will have to compulsorily undergo a COVID-19 test following which they will be under administrative quarantine for 14 days, if their test result is negative they will be sent for Home Quarantine and if positive they would be sent to a COVID hospital for recovery and treatment.
”People are strongly advised to avoid going to crowded places, as they are more likely to come into close contact with someone who has COVID-19 and it is more difficult to maintain physical distance with others at these places”, as per the bulletin. As a measure for social distancing in public places and workplaces wearing a face cover is compulsory.
The bulletin again explained that early detection of COVID-19 can prevent the spread of disease so we need to be responsible for the well-being of ourselves and everyone around us. “Not disclosing symptoms could put life of individuals and their families at risk. In case of symptoms like fever, cough and difficulty in breathing report early. Do not fear, call COVID-19 helpline numbers and seek medical advice”.
Advisory has further exhorted upon the people not to step out of home, unless absolutely necessary. “If you have to move out for unavoidable reasons, ensure that you wear a mask and practice social distancing, personal hygiene and frequent handwashing with soap and water.”
In case of any emergency people can avail free ambulance services 24x7 at their doorsteps by calling on toll-free number 108 while as pregnant women and sick infants can avail free ambulance services by dialling toll-free number 102.

Public is advised to strictly follow the advisories issued by the government from time to time and rely only on the information released by the government through the daily media bulletin to print and electronic media.
