A BAMS from Bihar's Siwan district, the 62-year old Devendra Sharma is allegedly involved in at least 40 murders in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan and allegedly selling about 125 kidneys for transplant as part of an inter-state racket run by one Dr Amit arrested in 2004 in the illegal transplants in his Nursing home in Gurgaon. Sharma earned Rs 5 - 7 lakh for each kidney transplant by making the gullible persons agree between 1994 and 2004.
He had also run a clinic as 'Janata Hospital' in Bandikui area of Jaipur for 11 years from 1984. His modus operandi was to trap the taxi drivers, kill them for removal of kidneys and throw their bodies to crocodiles in the Hazara canal in Kasganj, Uttar Pradesh, and get their taxis destroyed by cutting them into pieces in Meerut to sell the parts. Two cases of opening fake cooking gas agencies were also registered against him in Uttar Pradesh.
Sharma told Police that he and his accomplices started robbing trucks carrying the LPG cylinders to sell them in black market and kill the driver. They later found the taxi drivers as easy target to bump them off after getting their kidneys removed. He was found involved in the illegal kidney transplant racket run in Jaipur, Ballabhgarh, Gurgaon and other places.
Police said Jaipur's Lal Kothi police station has been informed to take his custody. A Delhi police team dealing with the narcotics learnt about Sharma hiding in the Baprola area and raided his house suspecting his involvement in narcotics. His interrogation, however, revealed the heinous crimes he had committed and undergoing the life imprisonment in many of them.
