Covid testing in India crosses 2 crore, low death rate of 28/million

NEW DELHI, Aug 3: India crossed the 2 crore mark of testing for Covid-19 on Monday with the tests totalling 2,02,02,858 since March, though the tests in a single day were much lower at 3,81,027 after peaking at 6,42,588 last Friday.
The mortality and recovery rates were also low after peaking at 853 and 51,255 respectively on Sunday. There were 771 deaths in 24 hours, raising the all-India death toll to 38,135 while the recoveries were 40,574, increasing the total recoveries out of 18 lakh tested positive were 11,86,203 which is 65.77% of those tested positive, same as on Sunday.
Those tested positive in the past 24 hours were 52,972, after peaking at 57,118 on Saturday. There are still 5.79 lakh under treatment in hospitals, which is 32.12% of the total infected. As many as 11,627 were cured and discharged from the hospitals in 24 hours. The highest 18,795 were discharged last Thursday.
The WHO dashboard shows 6,80,894 deaths due to Covid-10 as against 1,76,60,523 confirmed cases of Covid-19. In terms of deaths and confirmed cases, India continues to remain third behind the United States and Brazil, though its death rate per million population is much low at 28 as against 478 in the US and 443 in Brazil.
The death rate per million was much high at 849 in Belgium, followed by UK 680, Spain 608, Peru 594, Italy 582, Sweden 568, Chile 502, and France 464. China, from where the dreaded disease spread, has the third lowest death rate of just 3 per million, a notch more than 2 in Nepal and 1 in Fiji, while it is 19 in Bangladesh and 27 in Pakistan.
