ANANTNAG, Aug 7: The clothes of an army man abducted earlier this week in southern Shopian district were on Friday found in the orchards of another neighbouring village, alerting the forces, who launched major search operation in the area.
Army soldier, identified as Shakir Manzoor from Reshipora village was abducted by the suspected militants on August 2. He, according to official sources, was travelling to his home in his personal car when the suspected militants stopped him and abducted him. His car which was set on fire by the abductors was later found in Kulgam district. Besides his family members, who were seen pleading for his release in a video message, forces also have launched search operations in the area to locate the abducted army soldier.
On Friday morning, locals said that the clothes of the abducted army man were spotted near the orchards in Landoora village, nearly three kilometres from his native place.
The clothes, including shirt, pant and T-shirt, were spotted by some locals at three different spots who informed the police. Later a joint team of police and army reached the spot and recovered the clothes from the spot. Family members of the army soldier, sources said, also identified the clothes and confirmed that their son was wearing them on the day of abduction.
Following the recovery of clothes of the abducted soldier, the security forces, locals said, launched major searches in the area to locate him. Locals said that the forces surrounded the orchards of the area where the clothes were found and started a search operation which was going on till late evening.

A sarpanch associated with BJP was shot dead by the militants on Friday in Vesu area of Qazigund. Three days ago militants fired upon a panch affliated with BJP in Akhran area of Kulgam who is battling for life in Srinagar hospital.
The attacks have created fear psychosis among the BJP activists of the area, many of whom have announced resignation from the party through social networking sites in last four days.
