NEW DELHI, Aug 13: In a partial relief to thousands of the BS-IV car buyers, the Supreme Court on Thursday allowed them the registration, which was barred by it in an earlier hearing on July 31. It will, however, still leave out nearly 39,000 vehicles sold after March 31 will not be eligible for registration.
The Bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra, however, made it clear that only those BS-IV vehicles will be registered which were sold before the lockdown and uploaded on the government's E-vehicle (Vahan) portal. All those who could not register their new vehicles before the deadline of March 31 thus get the relief.
In the last hearing, it had stopped registrations on finding that a large number of cars were sold in the last week of March than usual. Now the sale of the BS-IV vehicles is banned as the BS-6 emission norms came into force from April 1.
