NEW DELHI, Aug 14: Three unidentified youth Friday morning climbed up the mini secretariat of the District Commissioner (DC) in Moga town of Punjab and unfurled a saffron Khalistani flag atop removing the Tricolour and carried away the Tricolour flag with themselves. It created sensation as it comes just on the eve of India's Independence Day.
The youth had come by a bike. One waited outside while two others climbed up the roof of the DC on the Ferozepur-Ludhiana Road, according to Jalandhar daily Metro Network. It said police has taken into custody for interrogation an attendant at the cycle stand who is the eyewitness of the incident. Police is searching for the miscreants and it has also checked the CCTV footage to establish their identity. Police has seized the Khalistani flag and put back another Tricolour in its place.
The incident has a significance since the banned Justice for Sikh outfit's founder Gurpat Singh Pannu had declared a reward of US $2500 to anybody unfurling the Khalistani flag in any city or town of Punjab. If someone dares to put a Khalistani flag at the Lal Quila (Red Fort), his reward is $1.25 lakh. Prime Minister Modi is to address the nation on Saturday from the ramforts of the fort.
The government is concerned over the intermittent activities of this kind in different parts of Punjab as attempts for revival of the militancy in the state.
