Covid patients in hospitals drops to less than 8 lakh

NEW DELHI, Oct 17: The number of Covid-19 patients in hospitals across India dropped to less than 8 lakh on Saturday, with 7.95 lakh of them accounting for 10.70% of a total of 74.33 lakh persons found infected with the positive symptoms. The hospital caseload fell by 9,441 in the past 24 hours.
Though 62,217 new cases of the dreaded disease were detected since Friday morning, the recoveries accounted for 70,816 discharged from the hospitals. The recovery rate went up to 87.78% with 65.25 lakh out of the hospitals.
With 9.99 lakh tests conducted in 24 hours, India has tested a total of 9.33 crore persons of the worldwide virus claiming lives of a very large number of persons.
The death rate remained at 8.52% since Thursday with the total deaths of 1,12,998, with as many as 837 dying in 24 hours. Maharashtra accounted for 306 of these deaths, followed by Karnataka 73, West Bengal 61, Tamil Nadu 57, Uttar Pradesh 46, Andhra Pradesh 25 and Delhi 22. Even the tiny Goa recorded another six deaths, raising its death toll to 531.
The WHO dashboard showed worldwide 11,09,130 deaths and 3,95,86,909 Coronavirus cases, 88,19,204 of them are still in treatment in the hospitals, 71,469 of them serious or critical while the deaths per million were 142.3 and total cases per million at 5,079.
