JAMMU, Oct 27: Jammu Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) has rejected the new land laws whereby anyone can purchase land in Jammu and Kashmir which is against the repeated assurances to the contrary by the BJP.
In a party handout, the JKPCC has termed it “another betrayal” of BJP with people of J&K, as time and again the people were assured that their right to land and jobs shall be protected at all costs, even post Article 370 abrogation. “Now the cat is out of bag and people especially youth feel cheated,” they said.
“Earlier, the government opened the doors of jobs to outsiders through three provisions in the domicile law. The outside youth could get domicile through those provisions and become eligible for any job in UT. Now the apprehensionshas come true and BJP government has facilitated the sale of land to all non J&K residents, at the cost of interests, culture and identity of people in the erstwhile Dogra state, already reduced to a UT against wishes of all people,” the Congress statement said.
The Congress party always sought and struggled for restoration of statehood with constitutional safeguards for lands and jobs and it will intensify its struggle as majority of people of J&K are opposed to such moves of BJP government, it further added.
JKPCC, in a separate statement, also alleged that certain BJP leaders are resorting to distortions of history to mislead the present generations with a view to malign the then leadership of Congress, who were instrumental in creating conducive atmosphere for the Muslim majority state to reject the two nation theory and opt for a secular India .
JKPCC Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma said that though Jammu and Kashmir became an integral part of India under the signature of maharaja Hari Singh Ji on 26th October 1947 but atleast ten years prior to it, the entire top brass of Congress under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi, Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru ,Sardar Patel, Maulana Azad and others started working to defeat the designs of Mr. Jinnah & to facilitate and ensure its accession to India, being the only Muslim majority princely state bordering the emerging Islamic Nation.
He said, as the voices for the creation of Pakistan based on religion started getting louder in later part of mid thirties, the visionary Congress leadership started working for a befitting reply to those designs from this state, which was considered a blank cheque by Jinnah at that time.
“The great statesman in Nehru , who had a great bondage with Kashmir and the then leadership, was on the forefront of this struggle , who saw in Sheikh Mohd Abdullah a great potential to counter the designs of Jinnah and lead a majority of Muslim population towards a secular India. Thereafter the history records the development of conversion of Muslim conference into a secular organization of National Conference in 1938-39 in furtherance of this agenda. Both Nehru and Sheikh worked very closely in the years to come to defeat the designs of Jinnah supported by British and also by some other organizations favouring division of country on religious lines.
Sharma said that the Sheikh had testified his consultations with Gandhi and Nehru, in his public statements, prior to accession and thereafter. “The advances of Jinnah in Kashmir to persuade the people to join Pakistan based on religion were nullified by the efforts of sheikh fully supported by Gandhi _Nehru and ultimately the Kashmiris rejected the proposal of Jinnah and Muslim league to join Pakistan and fully endorsed Maharaja Hari Singh accession with India,” he further added.
The Kashmiris under the leadership of Sheikh Abdullah not only rejected two nation theory but physically fought against the Pakistan raiders and were martyred like Maqbool sherwani and master Abdullah Aziz and others, the Congress leader reminded.
He said that the dilemma of Maharaja to delay the accession beyond August 15 was the Muslim majority character of the state coupled with the internal conspiracies being engineered by Pakistan, forcing maharaja to offer standstill agreement to both the neighbouring countries, on August 12,1947, to which Pakistan immediately signed, with ulterior designs in mind, which got reflected in the next couple of months.
He asked the BJP leaders to try to learn more about the history and the events leading to accession of Jammu and Kashmir to India and be truthful to history and to the present as well as future generations, even if they can't appreciate the heroes of our struggle for political compulsions.
