Maharashtra surpasses Delhi in Covid deaths

NEW DELHI, Nov 20: Maharashtra that used to top until recently in terms of the Covid-19 deaths and infections on Friday reported a sudden jump again to the highest 154 deaths, surpassing Delhi which recorded 98 deaths as against the previous day's 131 while West Bengal remained at third position with 53 persons succumbing to the dreaded disease.
Uttar Pradesh saw a surge in 803 new cases, followed by Delhi 763, Rajasthan 690, Chhattisgarh 651 and Madhya Pradesh 462. The Health Ministry is worried over 20 of the 35 states/Union Territories witnessing hike in the new cases of the virus.
It is also concerned over the case load on the hospitals going up for the first time after almost two months of decline in the cases of patients, though it went up by only 491 over the previous day to record 4.44 lakh still undergoing treatment. Its yet another concern was that for the first time after many weeks, the new cases of 45,882 detected in 24 hours exceeded the daily recovery of 44,807 as it had been other way round.
The tally of the total infections in the country crossed 90 lakh, though 84.28 lakh of them have recovered. The death rate touched 1.47% with 584 more deaths in 24 hours, raising the death toll to 1,32,162. So far 12.96 crore people have been tested for the disease, 10.84 lakh of them in 24 hours.
The WHO dashboard shows 5.72 crore cases of the Coronavirus worldwide, 13.66 lakh of whom succumbed to death.
