NEW DELHI, Feb 20: The Coronavirus has again started worsening in India, with the caseload of active cases going up by 3585 in the past 24 hours on Saturday and the new cases rising by 13,993 which is better than 10,307 recoveries during the same period.
Comparatively, the death toll has not picked up as only 101 deaths were reported in 24 hours, 44 of them in Maharashtra, 15 in Kerala, 8 in Punjab, 7 in Tamil Nadu, less than 5 in 14 states and Union Territories and none in 18 others. Total deaths in the country at 1,56,212 are 1.42% of the total infections of 1.098 crore.
The active cases shot up to 1.30% with 1,43,127 patients under treatment while 1.07 crore have recovered, giving the recovery rate of 97.27%. Those vaccinated also crossed 1.07 crore.
Total persons tested for the dreaded virus crossed 21 crore, with 7.87 lakh tested in the past 24 hours.
The Health Ministry reported an upsurge in daily new cases in Kerala, Maharashtra, Punjab, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. In the past week, Maharashtra has exhibited a spike in the number of daily new cases, accounting for highest number of daily new cases in the country today. In last 24 hours, 6,112 daily new case has been reported in the state.
Similar to Maharashtra, Punjab has also shown a sudden spike in the number of daily new cases reported in the last seven days, with 383 daily new cases in the last 24 hours and so is the case of Madhya Pradesh witnessing a rise in the number of daily new cases, registering 297 cases in the last 24 hours.
