2 militants killed in Anantnag gunfight

SRINAGAR, Feb 24: Two unidentified militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Anantnag district in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, police said.
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Shalgul forests in Srigufwara area of the district following information about the presence of militants there, a police official said.
He said the search operation turned into an encounter after militants opened fire on the security forces.
The official said two militants have been killed so far in the operation.
The identity and group affiliation of the slain militants was being ascertained, he added.
Inspector-General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar also confirmed that two militants have been killed in Shalgul forest.
Talking to a news agency ANI. Kumar said that the two militants belonged to the Jaish-Mohammad outfit.
It is a deep forest. However, forces managed to engage militants, the identity of the slain militant is yet to be ascertained, IGP added.
Earlier, reports said that a joint team of Police and Army’s 3RR launched a cordon and search operation in Shalgul forest.
As the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight.
