Rejection of Parra’s bail plea
SRINAGAR, Feb 24: While reacting to the bail rejection of PDP Youth President Waheed Ur Rehman Parra, Former Chief Minister and PDP president lamented that the worrying trend that bail is no more the rule but an exception & an accused is assumed to be guilty without proof. Current state of affairs is such that under trials are jailed for months & even years languishing behind bars before charges are proven.
While citing the Judgements Delhi Court’s judgement of Supreme Court in Disha Ravi’s case yesterday that mere allegations don’t amount to a crime is in stark contrast with Special Court’s decision to reject Waheed’s bail purely on the basis of accusations without evidence.
Parra’s bail was rejected on Tuesday by the Special TADA court after it observed that Parra was aiding militancy under the garb of mainstream politics and also added that charges against him were grave, serious and heinous in nature.
It is pertinent to mention that Parra was detained by the Criminal Investigation Department (Kashmir) and brought from Jammu on a transit remand, after his bailed out by an NIA court on January 09 in DSP Devinder Case. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had arrested Parra on November 25 in a separate case related to Militancy.
