Taiba’s Inspiring Story

ANANTNAG, FEB 26: Tabia Iqbal, was deaf and dumb by birth but her speech and hearing impairment did not dampen her spirit to go to school and get education. Her hard work and commitment finally paid off when she secured 90 percent marks in matric exams, results of which were announced on Friday.
Though her parents were desperate to see their daughter speak and hear and consulted many specialist doctors for several years after her birth to get her treated. However, all the efforts of doctors failed to bear any result and suggested her to use hearing aid. Taking it as their destiny, her parents stopped consultations and at the age of five admitted her in a local private school.
Hailing from Nowgam village of Shangas in Anantnag district, Tabia regularly went to school for several years.
Being a quick learner, she soon became the favourite student of her teachers.
However, when Tabia was in 4th standard, she suffered Arthritis, another serious health condition that rendered her crippled.
"Her joints suffered severe deformity later, leaving her crippled," said her father, Mohd Iqbal Shah, a retired engineer.
The family sought the treatment for their daughter at the leading medical science institutions and hospitals of India but returned disappointed.
Unable to walk, she later became completely dependent on the wheelchair, dashing all the hopes of her father about her education. But she did not let her spirit die with her health issues. "Despite all the health issues she would ask for her books and read them while on wheelchair," her father told Kashmir Times.
Since the principal of the school was aware about her learning ability and seeing her hunger for education alive, he ensured that three teachers from the school every go to her home and teach her there.
She finally wrote the class 10 exams in November last year and emerged victorious with high grades. Tabia secured 452 marks out of 500 amounting to over 90 percent marks.
Her father credited the principal and teachers of the school for his daughter’s success. "No doubt I played my part as a father but if someone deserves the credit for her success, first it is the school principal and teachers," her father said.
As soon as the results were declared this Friday morning, photo of the specially-abled girl along with her marks sheet went viral on social media with social media users showering praises on the girl and congratulating her and her parents.
Many facebook users described the girl as a real inspiration and wished her good luck for future.
"Congrats daughter. ….. this is equal to 500," wrote a facebook user as she shared her photo.
Another facebook user, Adil Ahmad, in his comments prayed for the recovery of the girl. "Rise and Shine more. May Allah give you recovery soon," hecommented.
