J&K: Upward trajectory of daily new Covid-19 cases

50 students, staffers of Sc College, IIM Jammu, Sanskrit Univ among 835 new cases

JAMMU, Apr 8: Jammu and Kashmir has shown a steep rise in the daily COVID-19 cases on Thursday. The COVID-19 positivity rate has increased fast cent in the first seven days of April.
J&K registered a record single-day spike of 835 new coronavirus infections pushing the statewide COVID-19 tally of cases to 135662 on Thursday.
However, with the one more death the total number of deaths due to Covid 19 virus has reached to 2019 in J&K
Official told that 30 more students and staff members of the GGM Science College, Jammu have been found positive, thus taking total number of positive students and teachers to 70 in the college
Adding more worry to people of Jammu, Amid the visit of the vice president of India to IIM Jammu, 19 students and staff member too reported positive on Thursday. Vice president will be the chief guest during the convocation of the IIM Jammu.
There were also reports that several teachers and staff members of the Govt Higher Secondary Schools in the Jammu city too found positive during random testing in the schools.
At least two dozen students and staff were also reported positive of the Sanskrit University KangarMorh, Bhalwal.
Taking serious view of the surge in the covid cases at the two colleges, the district administration has declared in and around GGM Science College, Canal Road, Jammu and in and around Sanskrit University KangarMorh, Bhalwal as the micro containment zones.
Out of 835 new positive cases of novel Corona virus (COVID-19), 280 from Jammu division and 555 from Kashmir division, have been reported today, thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 135662.
Moreover, 246 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals including 22 from Jammu Division and 224 from Kashmir Division.
According to the daily Media Bulletin on novel Corona virus (Covid-19), out of 135662 positive cases, 5623 are Active Positive, 128020 have recovered and 2019have died; 745 in Jammu division and 1274 in Kashmir division.
The Bulletin further said that out of 6373912test results available, 6238250 samples have been tested as negative till 08thApril, 2021.
Till date 1575505 persons have been enlisted for observation which included 59857 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 5623 in isolation and 124174in home surveillance. Besides, 1383832 persons have completed their surveillance period.
According to the bulletin, among the total 135662 positive cases in J&K, 14363 have been reported as travelers while 121299 as others.
The Bulletin said that the breakup represents districts from which the patients have been traced or are ordinarily residing.
