Top JeM militant killed in Tral

SRINAGAR, Oct 13: A top Jaish-e-Muhammad commander has been killed in a gunfight between government forces and militants in Waggad area of Tral hamlet in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday, police said.
A senior police officer told news agency Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a top JeM commander has been killed in the gunfight.
Kashmir zone police tweeted: “Top JeM Commander #militant Sham Sofi killed in Tral #Encounter.”
Earlier, an official said that a joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.
He said that as the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.
Meanwhile, Police, army and BSF have recovered a “damaged” Ak-47 rifle, ammunition besides three wireless sets from a forest area in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, officials said on Wednesday, according to news agency GNS.
Officials said that based on specific information, police, army’s 162 TA and BSF launched a joint operation in forest area of Reshigund Check in Kralpora. During searches, a police official told GNS that an AK-47 Rifle (Damaged)
Four Magazines, 720 rounds, three wireless set, five wireless set antennas, eight detonators besides three Chines grenades and a compass.
The official said a case has been registered and further investigations taken up.
