Cong clips powers of Uttarakhand in-charge

NEW DELHI, Jan 12: The Congress on Wednesday clipped the powers of former Delhi minister Devender Yadav (49) as the Uttarakhand in-charge after former chief minister Harish Rawat (73) fell out with him, only to withdraw his threat to quit politics, after former Congress President Rahul Gandhi intervened on December 24.

Fulfilling his word to Rawat, Rahul has appointed Mohan Prakash, a former Congress general secretary and senior party leader, as the AICC senior observer to Uttarakhand even while letting Yadav also continue in his post.

A press release by AICC general secretary (organisation) K C Venugopal said Mohan Prakash will oversee election campaign management and coordination in Uttarakhand with immediate effect.

Though Rahul had declared in a meeting with the state leaders that the party would contest the Assembly elections, slated on February 14, under the leadership of Harish Rawat to oust the BJP from power, the party has not declared him as the CM face as yet.
