Mukerjee’s two years as President
Kashmir Times. Dated: 7/31/2014 10:53:09 PM
Dear Editor,
President Pranab Mukerji should be complimented for his modest completion of two years as President of India when he made just three foreign-trips in first two years of his five-year term for the post, unlike his predecessor Pratibha Patil who grossly misused highest post of nation by making her grandchildren, relations and friends enjoy luxury foreign-junkets at heavy cost of Rs 223 crores to public-exchequer visiting as many as 23 countries in her five-year tenure as President of India.
It is noteworthy that President Pranab Mukerji fulfilled requirements of his diplomatic relations by being an efficient host to as many as 75 foreign-dignitaries having visited Rashtrapati Bhawan in first two years as President of India thus again proving a clear winner on his predecessor, by doing the national duty of maintaining diplomatic ties without spending much on foreign-trips for the purpose.
His other achievements have been bringing Rashtrapati Bhawan closer to general public by opening the palatial building for sight-seeing trip for people visiting New Delhi. His dedicating Rashtrapati Bhawan museum for general public is yet other charm for people going on sight-seeing trip of Rashtrapati Bhawan.
It may be recalled that Pranab Mukerji co-ordinates his national and ancestral duty in a nicely blended manner when he maintains tradition of attending Dussehra celebrations at New Delhi by rushing from his native village in West Bengal after attending his ancestral Durga-puja.
