UDHAMPUR, Oct 5: Three more bodies were retrieved from the debris on Sunday in an ongoing search operation launched by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the police in Saddal village of Pancheri in Udhampur district, hit by landslide on September 7, 2014.
The joint rescue team of SDRF and the police, engaged in retrieving the bodies of villagers who perished in landslide, today recovered three more bodies.
The bodies retrieved were identified as those of Kakri Devi, 80, wife of late Inder Singh, Lalita Devi, 23, daughter of Kapoor Singh and Pushpa Devi, 43, wife of Waryam Singh.
Though the rescue team could retrieve only few parts of Pushpa Devi’s body yet her family was able to confirm her identity on the basis of those body parts.
So far, 25 bodies have been retrieved from the debris yet 17 villagers are still missing.
The search operation is getting hampered by intermittent rains and bad weather. 42 people were killed in Saddal village wiped out in landslides triggered by heavy rains on September 7.
Several residents of the village remained trapped after 53 houses crumbled in landslide triggered by heavy rains on the fateful day.
Their houses were completely reduced to rubble and 42 persons were declared dead. Initially the army had come as only hope for the trapped villagers as the area was totally cut off from the mainland thus making it totally inaccessible for the civil administration and its rescue teams.
Since then the search operation is on, however, only 25 bodies have been retrieved so far.
