JAMMU, Oct 10(Agencies): An appeal was made to the Prime Minister to take action for preservation and restoration of artefacts
A treasure trove of artefacts has been damaged in the floods in Kashmir as the SPS Museum in Srinagar and The Institute of Music and Fine Arts were badly affected.
The museum housed artefacts, paintings and manuscripts dating back centuries and a significant part of Kashmir’s history.
There has been a call from officials and art lovers in Kashmir for help to restore and save some of the artefacts that can still be salvaged.
Appeal to Prime Minister
Responding to the call, SAHMAT and the Press Club of India here in the city organised a conference in which conservators, historians, specialists and artistes discussed ways in which the cultural heritage can be saved.
They emphasised that there was a need to appoint a team to help in the restoration process.
An appeal was made to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take action for preservation and restoration of the artefacts.
Various experts spoke on ways to restore damaged works and warned that if steps were not taken quickly, there was a fear that the priceless artefacts may be discarded by some callous people.
