Biker killed, 25 injured in Udhampur, Rajouri road mishaps

UDHAMPUR/RAJOURI, Feb7: A biker was killed while twenty five persons were injured in two separate road mishaps in Udhampur and Rajouri districts, today.
Reports from Udhampur said that a motorcyclist was killed after being hit by an army vehicle at Phalata on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Udhampur district, today.
The deceased has been identified as Rakesh Kumar, son of Nek Ram of Malar.
The deceased while riding on motorbike bearing registration number JK14C-8649 was on its way from house towards city when an army vehicle hit him resulting in his on the spot death.
The body after autopsy was handed over to the family members for last rites.
In another road mishap which occurred in the vicinity of Rajouri city in the afternoon today about twenty five persons including 2 years old boy and a pregnant woman were injured.
Police said that the mishap took place near village Gurdhan Pain under the jurisdiction of Rajouri Police Station at about 2 PM when a matador bearing registration number JK14B-6215 on way to Rajouri from Gurdhan skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge.
Immediately after the mishap a police party headed by SI Mohammad Sharief, In-charge City Police Post rushed to the spot and with the help of locals shifted the injured to District Hospital Rajouri.
About 25 injured were admitted to the hospital who, according to doctors attending them, are out of danger and many among them were sent to home after preliminary treatment.
Among injured were 2 years old Mohammad Fasal son of Zahid Hussain, a pregnant woman Nasreen Akhter and two woman teachers.
The injured have been identified as Kulsum Bi, Kaneez Akhter, teacher Mariyam Akhter, Nasreen Akhter, Mushtaq Ahmed, Kaneez Akhter, Mohd Azaz,Yaqoob Shah, Yaseen Shah, Kaneez Akhter, Ali Shah, Zaheer Shah, Mohammad Javed, Adil Begum, Bashir Begum, Mohammad Afzal, Mohammad Rayaz and Naseer Ahmed.
Police has registered a case against the driver and started investigation into the reason behind the mishap.
Meanwhile, a youth identified as Gulnaz Khan son of Mohammad Latief resident of Budhal was critically injured and was referred to district hospital after his motorcycle skidded off the road near village Dantote in Budhal tehsil.
