Saha hails Kashmir youth for pro-welfare measures

SRINAGAR, Sep 7: Lt Gen Subrata Saha, general officer commanding (GOC) Chinar Corps, today appreciated the youth of Kashmir for their contribution towards the welfare of people.
Addressing a three day mega event, “Milan” at Shopian he in this connection referred the services of youth in rescuing the people from the flood affected areas of Kashmir in September last year. “Like army, the youth played an important role in rescuing the people. The youth have been also taking part in the other welfare measures for the masses,” Lt Gen Saha added.
GOC Chinar corps also appreciated the efforts made by army and civil administration of Shopian and Pulwama to educate youth about the prospect of employment in army, other public sector and private Sector so that they can make the best out of these opportunities. He also commended the school children who had come in large numbers to participate in the drawing competition organized by 44 RR.
“The variety of paintings made by the children reflected the creativity and zeal they have to carve a niche for themselves. Milan is an initiative to give them a platform to enable the budding talents to aspire and achieve. Such exposure will boost their confidence," Lt Gen Saha said.
A defence spokesman said prizes for winners and participants were also distributed at the event. He added, “In continuation with the effort of Army to empower people, Chinar Corps had organized the three day mega event, Milan”from February 5 to7 at Shaheed Imtiyaz Thokar stadium, Shopian. Milan programme truly showcases the closeness and bonding between people and army. It provided the much desired platform of opportunities to the local youth from South Kashmir to showcase their talent in the field of sports, co-curricular activities and various prospects of education and empowerment. Army also distributed the blankets as relief material as contributed by Being Human Foundation.”
The defence spokesman said internet and IT awareness program for children of schools Bal Ashram Shopian was conducted to educate them about the importance of IT in education. “Chinar Corps Commander provided a financial support of Rs 25000 each to Bal Ashram Pinzur, DIET Shopian and Bal Ashram Pulwama. On request from the functionaries of the Shaheed Imtiyaz Thokar Stadium, A sum of 50,000 was provided for maintenance and upkeep of the stadium. Information stalls were showcased to create awareness regarding Defence forces placement node, horticultural and coaching institutes for students,”the spokesman said.
