NEW DELHI, Mar 10 (Agencies): BJP president Amit Shah on Tuesday warned the People's Democratic Party, its ally in Jammu and Kashmir, that the BJP can withdraw support to the state government if it is not consulted on any political decision outside the agreed agenda for governance.
"The PDP must stick to agenda for governance. No deviation by the PDP from the common minimum programme will be tolerated from here on. If PDP continues to act unilaterally then the BJP will not hesitate to pull the plug. The BJP must be consulted for any political decision outside the agreed agenda for governance," the BJP chief has told state leaders and the message will be conveyed to the PDP leadership.
The party chief on Tuesday met Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh and senior party leaders from the state, who apprised him of developments over release of Hurriyat's Geelani faction leader Masarat Alam.
According to BJP leaders, Amit Shah has made it clear that running the government in Jammu and Kashmir is not a priority for the BJP. "Protecting India's interests is BJP's top priority. There can be no compromise on separatism and terrorism. If the government in Jammu and Kashmir falls, then so be it," Shah has reportedly told the state BJP leaders.
According to Shah, the BJP entered the coalition in Jammu and Kashmir in good faith hoping to push a development agenda and wanting to secure a bright future for the youth of the state.
Earlier in the day, members in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha expressed "outrage" over the release of the separatist leader, calling the development "anti-national" and dangerous to the country's integrity. They also dared the BJP to pull out of the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed-led government over the issue.
