2 deaths in 3 days in Pulwama hospital

3 doctors attached for negligence

SRINAGAR, Mar 11: Amid protests a complete shutdown was observed in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district against the death of a pregnant woman at district hospital.
This was the second death in the same hospital in last three days. On March 8, a woman and her newly born baby died due to alleged negligence of doctors treating her. According to reports Khurshi Banoo, wife of Ghulam Rasool Bhat of Lajura hamlet died this morning after she developed complications following her delivery last night.
Family members and relatives of the deceased woman alleged that medical negligence caused her death. The death sparked massive protests while some agitated protesters resorted to stone-pelting and attacked police personnel who arrived at hospital to pacify the protesters.
Eyewitnesses said the protesters blocked the traffic and amid slogans clashed with police. The police fired some tear-smoke shells to disperse them. The clashes between police and protesters disrupted normal in the town.
“After giving birth to a baby following a cesarean, my sister developed complications and soon after breathed her last,” the brother of the deceased woman said.
Taking strong note of the alleged negligence on part of medical staff, the district administration attached Dr Tahira Rasool and Dr Tasleema to sub district hospital Sopore.
Pertinently, another woman Ruksana and her new-born died at the hospital on March 8, triggering massive protests against the hospital administration.
