JAMMU, Mar 26: Coalition partners PDP and BJP have formed 10-member Coordination Committee to ensure that the agenda for the Alliance is implemented within the defined timeframe and all the policy issues are adhered to in letter and spirit. The ten-member Coordination Committee comprises five members from each party.
The Coordination Committee will be chaired by Dr Nirmal Kumar Singh, Deputy Chief Minister. The other members of the Coordination Committee included party presidents Mehbooba Mufti and Jugal Kishore, Muzaffar Hussain Beig, Tariq Hamid Qarra, Thusptan Chhewang and Shamsher Singh, Members of Parliament and Choudhary Lal Singh, Abdul Rehman Veeri and Naeem Akhter, cabinet ministers in the coalition government.
The coordination committee will meet at least once a month or on need basis. The coordination committee would ensure smooth functioning of the alliance and the PDP-BJP coalition government and may suggest from time to time various initiatives to be taken for the overall wellbeing of the people of the state.
The first meeting of the Coordination Committee is scheduled to be convened in Jammu on March 27, 2015.
There have been some controversies creating serious differences between the alliance partners, especially on Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed's post-oath taking remarks crediting Pakistan, Hurriyat and militants for having contributed to the smooth conduct of elections in the state and on the release of separatist leader Masarat Alam.
Some MLAs of PDP demanded that the NDA government return the mortal remains of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, another potential point of tension in the coalition.
