3 cops killed; Officer, ex-militant injured in 3 attacks in Valley

SRINAGAR, Apr 6: Suspected militants carried out three attacks in Kashmir valley today and killed three cops and critically injured a sub inspector of Special Operations Group (SoG) of state police and a civilian in Tral area of south Kashmir
Suspected militants carried out an attack at Amchipora Shopian in south Kashmir when they pulled out three unarmed cops from a Sumo and shot them dead. The cops were on way to Amchipora in connection with a land dispute case between the locals. The cops have been identified as Head Constable Mushtaq Ahmed, a resident of Arigam, Constable Shabir Ahmed of Leh Ladakh and Constable Nisar Ahmed of Apple town Sopore.
Reports said that suspected militants stopped the Sumo and asked the three cops and the driver to get out of the vehicle and checked their identity cards and then fired a volley of bullets towards them.
However, the Sumo driver was allowed to go unharmed. The cops fell on the road in a pool of blood and were crying for help. The militants managed to escape from the spot. Soon after the incident, police, SOG and Army Rashtriya Rifles arrived on the spot and took the bodies of cops to police station and launched a manhunt to trace the militants. However, reports said that no one was arrested in the area.
Earlier, suspected militants shot at and critically injured a police officer in Mirgund Pattan in Baramulla district.
The officer was later identified as Ghulam Mustafa, SOG police officer who was travelling in a bus to Srinagar. The militants fired upon the police officer at his neck and the latter felt unconscious immediately after he was fired.
Reports said that suspected militants asked all the passengers in the bus to switch off their mobiles and maintain silence. The suspected militants also directed the driver of the bus to keep moving towards his destination and refrain from stopping the vehicle anywhere. Reports also said that cop who pretended to be dead inside the bus woke up soon after the militants escape from the bus. The injured officer was taken to hospital.
In another incident, suspected militants fired upon a vegetable seller Rafiq Ahmed Bhat a resident of Tral. Rafiq, according to police, was a former militant. Reports said that Rafiq has been immediately hospitalised and is considered to be out of danger.
The wreath laying ceremony was held at Police Control Room. The IG Kashmir on the occasion said that they are investigating these incidents and are also investigating as to which militant outfit and militants are responsible for these incidents. The IG also said that the cops were unarmed and were going to investigate a local case.
