Ved Mehta passes away

JAMMU, Apr 27: Ved Mehta, the former president of Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) Jammu and one of the prominent businessmen of Jammu, passed away today at his residence. He was 85.
Ved Mehta belonged to the illustrious family of Mehta Basti Ram, the deputy of the architect of J&K’s expansion to Tibet General Zorawar Singh. Mehta Basti Ram later also served as Governor of Ladakh province.
The younger brother of former union minister Om Mehta and woman MP from Doda-Udhampur Krishna Mehta, Ved Mehta from Kishtwar started as a businessman and later rose to the post of president of Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jammu. Prominent advocate Sat Mehta is his younger brother.
Ved Mehta is survived by his two sons Vivek Mehta and Vikram Mehta and a daughter Veni, their spouses and children. Veni is married to Ajay Mahajan, MLA Nurpur, Himachal Pradesh.
According to family sources, his cremation will take place tomorrow at Cremation Ground Shastri Nagar, Jammu at 4.00 PM.
His death has been widely condoled in social and business circles of Jammu.
