Will expose power hungry politics of PDP-BJP: Mir
JAMMU, May 3: Asserting that Congress would not allow the anti-farmers legislation to be passed in the Parliament, the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said that the graph of the present Modi led government at the Centre had fallen so rapidly amongst the people in less than a year because of its wrong policies that no government in the past lost its mass support in such a short span.
Addressing a day long convention of Congress workers of Jammu (urban and rural), here today, the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha said that the present coalition partners in the state had no common ideological meeting point and it was a unique combination only for the sake of power, as a result the people not accepted present alliance.
One day convention organized by the District Congress Committees (urban and rural) which was attended by a large number of party workers from all assembly segments of Jammu district and was presided over by PCC president Ghulam Ahmed Mir and attended by senior leaders of PCC, district and Block, Ward and frontal organizations. The convention was held at Kamla Palace, Akhnoor Rood, Jammu.
Azad lashed out at ‘Modi government’ for its anti-farmer policies and said that Congress would fight for the right of farmers and poor in the country and would not allow the pro-rich and pro-corporate policies at the cost of farmers. He said that Congress would not allow the present anti farmers legislation to be passed in the Parliament.
He expressed concern over the use of religion for politics saying that religious exploitation polarized the polity of the country. He accused the BJP of spreading falsehood and exploiting people during Lok Sabha elections, but said that the graph of the Modi led government had fallen so rapidly which no government in the past witnessed such type of situation in a short spell of time. He said that two coalition partners PDP and BJP joined hands for the sake of power only but there was nothing common in their ideologies. He said that alliances were always worked out between like minded parties having some sort of commonness in their ideologies but the present coalition between two ideologically opposite forces was not based on any principle in politics and was totally unholy.
He said that it was UPA government during which all three regions of the state witnessed equitable development and said that two central universities were sanctioned besides Cancer Institutes in both the regions besides one Ayurvedic College in Jammu and one Unani College in Kashmir. He said that one Super Specialty Hospital was simply announced by NDA government which was without any clearance and funding but UPA government not only sanctioned this Super Specialty Hospital in Jammu but also similar hospital in Kashmir. He justified the demand for a separate AIIMS in Jammu in view of the peculiar situation in the state.
Appreciating the efforts of state unit for galvanizing and activating the party cadre in the state, he asked party leaders and workers to get united to strengthen the party and bring it back to power. He also recalled the long service of former district president and veteran leader late Om Chopra (ex-MLA) who rendered his valuable services till last days of his life.
G A Mir in his address thanked Azad for sparing valuable time to attend this convention and said that Congress party was a strong vibrant force in three regions of the state. He said that during short span of his taking over as PCC president, he held series of meetings and conventions of the districts in different parts of the state and said that Congress cadre was intact and committed to the party and its ideology and would play a role of responsible opposition to expose an unholy alliance of two parties. He said that the people of the state felt betrayed as both the parties contested elections on their own agenda which was contradictory and opposed to each other but after securing mandate two parties joined hands to share power ignoring the aspirations of the respective electorates.
He said that Congress workers too had some grouse with their own leaders as they felt ignored and neglected by the ministers and legislators as a result most of the workers were not satisfied with their working resulting into the defeat of the party. However, he said that there was enthusiasm and dedication amongst the party workers to rebuild and strengthen the party in order to expose the present unholy alliance of opposite ideologically two parties. He asked the party leaders and workers that those had merit and grass root support would get due respect and place in the organization. He asked the party workers to go to the masses and expose the power hungry politics of the two parties and gear up for forth coming Local Bodies elections in the state.
Former member Parliament Madan Lal Sharma, Sham Lal Sharma senior vice president PCC, N Rigzin Jora CLP leader, Raman Bhalla vice president PCC, Kanta Bhan vice president PCC, Suman Bhagat, Balwan Singh, Vikram Malhotra, Shiv Dev Singh, Indu Pawar, S S Shinghari, B S Sambyal, Pranav Shagotra, Neeraj Kundan, Anil Chopra president DCC Urban, Shamsher Singh Chib, Shashi Sharma also address the gathering. Anil Chopra conducted the proceedings of the convention.
Former MP Madan Lal Sharma lambasted the BJP for surrendering the issues of people and their ideology for over six decades regarding Article 370, issues of West Pak and PAK refugees and border residents facing the brunt of Pak firing and other issues which the BJP always championed. He said the party was exposed before the people and accused it of betraying the people of Jammu region.
Senior vice president Sham Lal Sharma in his address lashed out at the PDP-BJP coalition for its failure to secure the package forwarded by the NC-Congress coalition to the tune of Rs 44000 Cr for the relief and rehabilitation of the flood and rain affected people in the state as a result people were facing hardships and the farmers were suffering in the entire state because of loss of crops, vegetables and fruit due to recent rains, while the government failed to provide any relief to them. He also lashed out at the anti-youth recruitment policy of the state government.
Bhalla in his address referred to the promises of the BJP to the people of Jammu region during the Lok Sabha and assembly elections and then they compromised the interests of the people and their agenda on which they exploited the people Jammu region in the name of empowerment and justice to the region. He said that people could not be fooled and they understood real face and hunger for power of the BJPs. He referred to the issues of refugees and blamed the Modi government for not sanctioning the package of Rs 25 lakh to the refugees as submitted by the previous coalition government.
Jora said that the unholy combination of PDP and BJP had no takers as the two parties were exposed for their double standards and double speak. He accused BJP of rousing the regional and religious emotions of the people in Jammu region but surrendered on all issues including on issues of security and integrity of the state. He said that Congress always ensured equitable share to the three regions of the state in every sphere.
Shah Mohammed advocate presented the resolution which was adopted in the convention.
Anand Gupta president of BJP of ward No. 42 Gandhi Nagar joined the Congress party along with his supporters.
On this occasion SSP (retired) Bhupinder Singh joined the Congress party along with his supporters.
