Dirty confrontation in Delhi

Sangh Parvar has amply demonstrated its agenda of defeating federalism and promoting unilateralism against the interests of common masses

The on-going confrontation between a democratically elected Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi headed by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and the Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung over the issue of transfers and postings of some IAS cadre officers and their appointments amounts to slaughter of democracy in broad day-light. The manner in which the Lieutenant Governor cancelled all the postings made by the democratically elected government since its inception also speaks of unilateral decisions made by an appointed person enjoying the backing of the BJP-led NDA government at the centre. Najeeb Jung may be correct in putting aside the decisions of the AAP government legally and constitutionally, as per the opinion of the legal experts because Delhi does not enjoy full statehood like other states of the union of India. But it does not go down well ethically in view of the fact that there is a duly elected government. In fact, the problem started from the very beginning when the BJP and its prime minister Narendra Modi suffered a setback after the much hyped victory in the parliamentary elections which brought NDA government to power with complete decimation of all the major political parties in Delhi state elections last year. BJP has a marginal presence with only three of its elected members sent to Delhi Legislative Assembly despite the fact BJP tried to put up a brave face during and before the elections. The announcements and the posture adopted by the BJP made it abundantly clear that everything will not be alright after the conclusion of the elections and victory of AAP. The BJP and its leaders made everything clear that they will not be allowing the AAP government to function in a smooth manner in Delhi which in their eyes is not even a full-fledged state and central government will retain all rights to interfere in its functioning or even day-to-day working. This sadly included the control over the police force which runs the nation's capital so far as law and order and security of the VVIPs is concerned and draws its importance from being the force that is directly supervised by the union home ministry. So the control has effectively been under the command of the union home ministry which pulls its strings whichever way it wants. Declaration of full statehood for Delhi has become a bone of contention between the Kejriwal government and the centre which wants to retain unilateral control over the regime in New Delhi.
Unfortunately, the defeat of mainstream political parties in Delhi elections has not gone down well either the opposition or the ruling parties at the centre. The show of control and wielding of power has amply been demonstrated by the NDA government in the past few months with the opposition parties maintaining a studied silence over the issue as the Congress did not want to be tagged with the AAP leadership which also decimated it after 15 long years of rule in Delhi. Transfers and postings of some bureaucrats here and there is not the big issue that is staring the NDA government in its face, but the problem is exercising control in the national capital region and not to allow federal system to work as has been made clear by the Sangh Parivar party in its declarations in the past. The BJP which draws its strength from RSS ideologue want to come to power and maintain unilateral power wielding for the entire nation in their own way and manner in which they want to preach fascism and totalitarian regime. The followers of the RSS have made no secret of their intentions in exercising full control over the centre and the states of the union where they want other parties to be decimated in whichever way they can and take all sorts of decisions which suits their whims and fancies. It is also no secret that they do not want to tolerate any opposition party that comes to power in any of the states of India for they want unilateral approach on all issues whether they go to the benefit of common masses or not. The BJP-led NDA government has a clear agenda of promoting a capitalist government which promotes and nurtures the interests of the capitalists, who have supported their party to come to power. Majority of the decisions taken by the NDA government have been going against the poor masses and to the benefit of the capitalists. They have also amply demonstrated that they can go ahead with their agenda even outside the parliamentary norms of democracy so far as promulgation of ordinances is concerned without getting them passed in the Parliament. They have shamed the democracy in a nation that is celebrated as the biggest democracy of the world for narrow and parochial interests to carry forward their agenda of communalism and unilateralism.
