JAMMU, Jul 2: The state unit of the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) seems to be trying to improve its image through annual Amarnath pilgrimage, which officially commenced today.
Since this is for the first time annual pilgrimage is taking place when BJP is part of the alliance government in the state big hoardings with images of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP chief Amit Shah, party MPs from Jammu and senior state leaders and party incharge J&K Affairs have come up across city of temples welcoming pilgrims with folded hands.
These hoardings carry welcome message from BJP state unit.
The pilgrims, who are reaching here to start the pilgrimage and camping in different base camps, are coming out with mixed opinion over arrangements made by the state government and Shri Amarnath Shrine board. Senior cabinet ministers have been regularly visiting various camps and other places where pilgrims are expected to stay/spend time during pilgrimage to take stock of the arrangements. The langar committees have been informed to stay in touch with the concerned agencies if they require any assistance while extending services to the pilgrims.
Several other pilgrims, who are facing difficulties in completing registration formalities, have been facing tough time. In the absence of adequate facilities at Exhibition ground where on the spot registration was done along with issuing health certificates several pilgrims have been found complaining about the inadequate facilities.
In the absence of clean water and less number of yatra counters the pilgrims have to wait for a long time in serpentine queues to complete the formalities. Several other pilgrims have raised the issue of locker facility at the yatri niwas.
