SRINAGAR, July 2: A day after Amnesty International (AI) termed AFSPA as the main source of killings and human rights violations in Kashmir Valley, National Conference additional general secretary Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal Thursday accused former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed of being responsible for imposition of controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in Jammu and Kashmir during his tenure as Union Home Minister.
Kamal accused Mufti of imposing Jagmohan as the Governor in the state who "unleashed brutality" on the people of the state.
“The memories of the Gaw Kadal, Handwara, Bijbehara, Hawal and other massacres that happened under Mufti Sayeed tenure as the Home Minister of India are forever etched in the hearts of Kashmiri people," Kamal told a Srinagar based local news agency adding that the reality of Mufti was known to people of Kashmir.
“Everybody knows that Mufti turned healing touch into killing touch after becoming the Chief Minister of the state in 2002," he alleged.
He said instead of holding AFSPA responsible for the killings and human rights violations in Kashmir, Amnesty International should blame the incumbent Chief Minister for the violence and killings in Jammu and Kashmir since 1990.
