DUBAI, July 4: South Africa's middle-order left-handed batsman David Miller may compensate (monetarily) the Indian police constable, who has lost complete vision in one of his eyes due to his huge six in the last IPL season.
During the IPL match between KKR and KXI Punjab on 9th May,2015 at Eden Garden, Kolkata, an Indian police constable Alok Aich was seriously hit with a six from David Miller. The police man has lost his right eye completely, and also broke his right cheek and nasal bone, when he was on duty at Eden Garden. His left eye has also been affected with a stroma.
The family has written letters to the Indian cricket board, the IPL chairman and also requested the South African player (through Tony Irish, the SACA and the FICA chief) to help for the medical expenses they had to bear.
"I am very sorry to hear about your father’s injury. Although this was an accident I will nevertheless forward your mail to David (Miller) and his agent, Weber Van Wyk, to find out what their attitude will be. I will ask Weber to reply directly to you on this", Tony Irish has replied to the family.
Few former cricketers believe it has been a genuine request made by the family.
"I feel the request of the son of the injured Police Personnel is genuine. I think Miller was bought for an absorbent amount during 2015 auction. Sparring a few bucks will not only help the Injured policeman and his family but will also enhance his reputation as generous gentleman among the cricketing world", MSK Prasad, the former India wicket-keeper has said in family's favor. The family is also awaiting a favorable response from the richest cricket board.
