Govt on right track to bring 'Achhe Din': Advani

AHMEDABAD, Nov 22 (Agencies): Days after raising a banner of revolt against Prime Minister Narendra Modi following BJP's resounding defeat in Bihar polls, party patriarch L K Advani today said the government is on the right track to bring 'achhe din' in the country.
Talking to reporters after exercising his franchise for the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation election at a polling booth in Khanpur area here, he said, "I believe that the whole system takes its own time. Since, the government is going in the right direction, I believe that the results will also be good."
He was asked whether the Modi government has failed to fulfil its promise of bringing 'acche din' (a popular slogan of BJP during 2014 Lok Sabha elections), especially in the wake of recent price rise.
Voting is underway today for six municipal corporation polls in the state, including Ahmedabad.
Party veterans Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Shanta Kumar and Yashwant Sinha had issued a strongly-worded statement after the Bihar poll debacle, saying that the party has been "emasculated" in the last one year and was being "forced to kow-tow to a handful".
To a query on how he sees this election turning out for the ruling party after the Bihar drubbing, Advani said BJP has put extra effort to ensure that they win civic body polls.
"I can say that consciousness of our party has increased (after the Bihar result). All efforts were made here to see that the result comes in our favour. And these efforts will be certainly reflected in the result," he said.
The MP from Gandhinagar said local body polls are as important as the assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
In the municipal polls this time, 50 per cent seats have been reserved for women candidates, while four candidates from one party per ward are in the fray.
"I am happy that MPs are also allowed to vote in corporation polls. I also learnt that 50 per cent seats are kept reserved for women. I was told that I have to press 'register' button (on EVM machine) after casting my vote for all four candidates (of one party). As per new system, I came here and cast my vote," he said.
Counting of votes will take place on December 2.
