Inter Distt championship organises at Ramban

RAMBAN, Oct 21: Indian Army under “Sadhbhavana” conducted “Pir Panjal Inter District Wrestling Championship” at Govt Higher Secondary School, Ramban.
The Wrestling Championship was conducted from October 15 to 20 that witnessed huge participation of over 100 Pahalwans across the J&K State. This is the first edition of event of this kind where teams selected at district level were competing for coveted trophy. People of Ramban Distt experienced unprecedented crowd during the entire Championship.
The entire event reflected the spirit of optimism and vigour that the tournament envisaged. The extravaganza included culture activities like Dogri song and dance, Flute song, Punjabi dance and National Integration song cum dance “India Waale”. These programmes were performed by a troupe Neeta Adresh & Group from Jammu. The event was an exceptional one as it drove the cultural and regional aspirations of the people.
Seven teams from the six districts of Jammu region participated which were Red Devil Ramban, Rajaurian Ranchos, Poonch Panthers, Kishtwar Warriors, Daring Dodians, Naushera Ninjas and Reasi Rhinos. Reasi Rhinos (District Team of Reasi) emerged as winners with total prize of over 2 lakhs in various weight categories. The main highlights of the event was 'Traditional Dangal' between Pehalwan Ajay Sharma and Pehalwan Mohd Sadiq. This match was the climax of the Championship as it carried a cash prize of 25,000.
A spectacular Rolling trophy was also presented to the winning team along with cash prize and medals to individual winners. Positions of the various teams were as follows Reasi, Ramban, Kishtwar, Doda, Rajouri, Naushera and Poonch respectively.
Special attraction of the finals was presence of Olympic Medalist Yogeshwar Dutt.
Speaking on the occasion Olympic Medalist expressed his gratitude to the Indian Army and appreciated the efforts undertaken by them to promote sports culture in J&K. He also hoped and conveyed to youth about the importance of outdoor events in the world of sports.
