Nasrullahpora youth dies, locals allege killing by securitymen, police denies

SRINAGAR, Oct 21: A youth reported to have died during clashes at Nasrullahpora in Budgam district today. The locals alleged that he died in security forces action, but police denied the charge and said he died due to heart attack.
Life remained paralysed for the 105th consecutive day today in the Valley due to separatist called general strike. The authorities had imposed restrictions in some parts of old city of Srinagar and other areas to prevent post-Friday prayer protests.
Protests erupted in Nasrullapora of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district after a 24-year old youth died. Locals said Junaid Ahmed was hit by a tear-gas shell, a charge refuted by police. “There were no injury marks on his body. The cause of death could have been ascertained if relatives would have allowed us to conduct autopsy, but shortly after the death of the youth, they took the body away,” medical superintendent JVC Dr Ishfaq Ahmed told a local news agency CNS.
Dr Ishfaq quoting his relatives said that slain youth had collapsed when a group of protesters had been chased away by security forces. “He was taken to primary health centre Soibugh where from he was brought to this hospital. We conducted ECG but he was not responding. There were no injury marks on his body. We cannot ascertain the real cause of his death as the relatives did not allow us to conduct autopsy,” he said.
Meanwhile, a police handout said on Friday afternoon one person Junaid Ahmad Mir son of Fateh Mir resident of Nasrullah Pora Budgam was brought to JVC Bemina, Srinagar where the doctors declared him brought dead. As per doctors prima facie he has died of cardiac arrest as there are no marks of any injury on his body
Restrictions were imposed in the old city areas of Srinagar and Pampore town to maintain law and order. Lal Chowk area in Srinagar was also sealed. Restrictions were also imposed in some parts of Valley.
Reports said security forces used PAVA shells to disperse protesters in Kangan town of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district. A large number of youth shortly after Friday prayers hit to roads and clashed with forces. The protesters resorted to stone-pelting while Forces used tear-smoke shells and PAVA shells to disperse them. Reports said a march was carried out from Jamia Masjid Shangus in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
A march was also taken out from Khudwani area of Kulgam district. Shortly after the culmination of march, protesters clashes with security forces. Reports said eight people received injuries during the clashes. Protests and clashes were also reported from Dooru area of the Anantang district where security forces fired tear-smoke shells to disperse the protesters. Locals alleged that government forces fired tear-gas shells into the premises of residential houses.
Clashes also took place in various parts of Pulwama district. Reports and witnesses said clashes erupted in Tral, Tahab, Newa, Nikas, Koil and Dalipora villages of the district after congregational Friday prayers. Six persons each were injured in clashes in Tral and Tahab. Protests were also held in Kareemabad, Kangaan, Rohmu and Kakapora area of Pulwam district.
Strict restrictions were imposed in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district whilesecurity forces launched a crackdown in old town Baramulla and conducted door-to-door searches. Locals said that heavy contingents of Rashtriya Rifles, police and CRPF cordoned off the area and arrested a number of persons. The search operation according to locals was carried out in Suhail Colony, Eidgah Qadeem, Drangbal areas of the district.
Reports from Barzulla Srinagar said that a youth was detained after protesters organized a march while some youth resorted to stone-pelting. The protesters carrying placards and banners tried to hit to main road, but police stopped them while the agitated protesters pelted stones on them. Women also took part in the protest Cops burst smoke shells to disperse the protestors.
A rally was also carried out in Pirbagh Srinagar after Friday prayers.
A protest rally was taken out in Beerwah area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district. Reports said that shortly after Friday congregational prayers people took out a peaceful rally.
Reports said rallies were taken out in different areas of North Kashmir’s Sopore town.
A police official said that the barring few incidents of stone-pelting situation remained peaceful across Kashmir. “Barring a few stray incidents of stone pelting, situation across the valley remained by and large peaceful today till filling of this report. As a preventive measure restrictions were imposed in some parts of Srinagar. Last evening some unknown militants fired upon one Mohammad Aamir Bhat son of Mohammad Younis resident of Cheirmarg in the jurisdiction of Police Station Zainapora, Shopian near his home, resulting in injury on his right thigh.
He was shifted to District Hospital Anantnag for treatment where from he was referred to SKIMS Soura, Srinagar for further treatment. Shopian police has registered a case in this regard,” the police official said.
Meanwhile, continuing its sustained drive against protestors found involved in disrupting public order in different parts of the valley, police has arrested 72 more such people during past 24 hours, police said.
