30 militants active in south Kashmir: Army

SRINAGAR, Feb 12: About 30 militants are active in South Kashmir districts of Anantnag and Kulgam and efforts are being made to pursue them to return them to the mainstream, a senior Army officer said in Anantnag.
It was a big success for the security forces to kill four militants in a single operation, he said.
Talking to reporters after the Kulgam encounter in which two each militants of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) and Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), besides two Army personnel and a civilian were killed and three soldiers were injured, the Army officer of 1st Rashtriya Rifles (RR) said that there are about 30 militants active in two districts of South Kashmir.
“We have information about their activities, he said, adding efforts are being made to pursue them to return to mainstream. We are taking the help of some others to help them to shun the path of violence and join the mainstream again,” he said, adding, “we expect that with next few days one or two militants will surrender to lead a normal life.”
