Azad questions centre’s decision, army to go ‘tough’ against valley youth

LUCKNOW, Feb 16 (Agencies): AICC general secretary and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today questioned decision of the Centre and army to go tough against the Kashmiri youth protesting against encounters.
“Last year, more than 100 youths lost their lives, while around 200 children lost eyes in the army action besides 12,000 were put in jails. Will the Centre want to repeat the same?” he questioned the Centre.
Talking to media persons here today, Azad said that the situation in the Kashmir valley was very sensitive and any provocation could again make the condition worse. “But any harsh measure by army can be counter effective,” he further said.
The leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha was reacting to the statement by Army General that strict action would be taken against the youths indulged in violence in the Kashmir valley.
