Change in J&K situation for better tops PDP agenda: CM

SRINAGAR, Feb 19: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today asserted that the agenda of PDP is to change the situation of Jammu and Kashmir for better and its commitment and seriousness have been attested time and again.
She was addressing people from Budgam district on the occasion of joining of senior leader of Congress Nazir Ahmad Khan of Beerwah into PDP here
“PDP has time and again displayed that it would rise to the occasion for the welfare of the people and will not shy away from even taking tough decisions for the betterment of the state. It is an open page of recent history of Jammu and Kashmir that how PDP changed the things when it came to power in 2002. Be it political front or governance, everything witnessed a positive change during that period,” chief minister said.
Mehbooba, who is also the president of PDP, said the party under the leadership of late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed has taken even very bold decisions to ensure a better environment to the people and take the state out of its difficult situation.
“Agenda of Alliance which the party has negotiated for the present government includes every aspirational requirement of the people and I hope that its successful execution would lead the state to the heights of peace, prosperity and development,”she said.
Welcoming Nazir Ahmad Khan into the party fold, Mehbooba said he comes from a good political legacy and is full of enthusiasm to work for the people of the area adding his entry into the party is like a home coming for him. She said the party needs young leaders like him to carry forward and implement the agenda of the party which aims at bringing happiness and prosperity back to the state.
Earlier, vice president of PDP, Mohammad Sartaj Madni formally welcomed Nazir Ahmad Khan and his supporters into the party fold.
Son of Muhammad Sarfaraz Khan, a long-time associate of late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed and former minister, Nazir Ahmad Khan has been in active politics for the last two decades. In the last Assembly elections he lost to Omar Abdullah by a slender margin of less than 1000 votes.
General secretary of PDP, Qazi Mohammad Afzal, minister for PWD, Naeem Akhter, former MLA, Dr. Shafi Ahmad Wani and hundreds of party workers were present on the occasion.
