Diminishing Indian values among youth matter of serious concern: Bhalla
JAMMU, Mar 20: Senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla today said that education makes us a distinct person with a broad vision, new ideas and thoughts and wisdom and values make us morally, socially and culturally distinct thus education should be accompanied with the knowledge of our great values as well.

“Education which does not enable a person to stand on his own feet, does not teach him self-confidence and self-respect, is useless. Education should be man-making, life giving and character-building. He also said that children should be given “positive education”, i.e they should be encouraged to learn new things till they gain self-confidence and self-respect” he added.

Truth is the basis of all Religions and hence we must always practice tolerance towards other religions. We should teach religion to children because, by learning about the origins of myths and the histories of various religious institutions, they can see all religions as part of the same phenomenon and not see one as inherently superior to all others. I think it is important to give children a healthy dose of religious education early on, teaching them a broad range of comparative mythology and religion from a phenomenological approach.

Children are naturally curious, and what is more interesting than the ancient belief systems that so many of our peers and ancestors have dedicated their lives to? By teaching them about the world’s religions, we are giving them the information they seek and filling a gap in their knowledge in the same way we do when we teach about history or politics, Bhalla remarked.

There is no chance for welfare in the world unless the condition of woman is improved. He felt that it was impossible to get back India’s lost pride and honour unless the condition of women was improved. Almost every aspect of our lives are guarded and directed by moral, social and cultural values which teach us the right way to behave with others. We have social and cultural values which direct our social behaviours such as value of greeting, obeying, giving respect, modesty, group harmony, social welfare, cooperation, brotherhood, patriotism, and respect for all religions etc, former Minister added.

Parents should teach their young ones the importance of our values and encourage them to apply those in their practical lives. In schools and colleges students should be taught about the usefulness of values and should be imparted a Value based education. All they need is the right atmosphere, guidance and motivation of the parents, elders, teachers, and other educated and enlightened people of the society who can teach the youth that identity is created on the foundation of one’s values and not the foreign values, Bhalla maintained.
