SRINAGAR, Apr 15: Police today foiled a protest march by Awami Itihad Party (AIP) to Badami Bagh cantonment and detained its chairman and MLA Engineer Rasheed.
A party spokesman said the protest march was against using of a civillian Farooq Ahmad Dar as human shield by army in Beerwah recently and other human rights violations by security forces in Valley.
The march led by Rasheed started from Sonwar and moved towards Badami Bagh cantonment. However, police and CRPF stopped the march as it was nearing the main gate of Army Headquarter.
As the protestors resisted, forces used force to disperse them. The cops arrested a dozen protestors including Rasheed and lodged them in police station Ram Munshi Bagh.
Before his arrest, Rasheed while talking to media persons said Beerwah and Pulwama incidents refute the claim that forces here are the most disciplined forces.
“Using innocent unarmed civilians as human shields and beating Kashmiris continues to be worst form of state terrorism. This is not something new here but for the want of evidences army would often negate such incidents claiming it as a propaganda of anti-national forces and Pakistani agents. However Beerwah incident by the courtesy of social media has exposed New Delhi’s inhuman operations in Kashmir,” he said.
