SRINAGAR, Apr 16: PCC chief G A Mir today strongly condemned the beating of dozens of college students in Pulwama and killing of a youth in security forces firing at Batamaloo yesterday.
In a statement, Mir claimed that chief minister Mehbooba Mufti was acting as a silent spectator to such incidents.
“It is very unfortunate indeed. The security forces should not have entered into college premises to beat the students. What message they wanted to convey to the people. Such type of action by police or security forces leads to further deterioration in the situation. It gives rise to the anger among the people,” Mir said.
Urging people especially youth to maintain calm, Mir said that violence cannot be solution to the problem as everything can be settled through peaceful means.
He criticised the state government for failing to ensure peaceful atmosphere in the valley especially in South Kashmir and blamed it for the restlessness and insecurity among the people.
Mir also condemned the killing of Bashir Ahmad of Qasbayar Pulwama by unidentified gunmen and termed the incident of kidnapping and killing as highly condemnable. He also condemned the killing of Sajad Hussain Shiekh, who was shot dead by BSF yesterday evening in Batamaloo.
