NEW DELHI, Apr 28 (Agencies): An alleged Pakistani national was reportedly detained by Indian intelligence agencies after he disclosed his identity as an Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) operative at a New Delhi airport.
Muhammad Ahmad Sheikh Muhammad Rafiq said he wanted to disclose information Pakistan’s premier intelligence after he landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi from Dubai, reported a TV channel.
“Hello, I am an ISI agent. But I don't wish to continue any further and want to remain in India,” the newspaper quoted the alleged Pakistani national as saying.
It added that the man’s claim left officials at the airport’s helping desk baffled and they informed the security. The passenger, said to be in his late 30s, was detained immediately following his ‘revelations’.
The TV report, citing anonymous officials, said the man claimed he was an ISI operative booked for Nepal’s Khatmandu but had decided to call it a day and remain in India.
The 39-year-old reportedly carried documents with stamps of Pakistan's premier intelligence service Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Indian intelligence is currently verifying Rafiq's travel documents.
Rafiq had reached Delhi on an Air India flight from Dubai. He was scheduled to travel further to Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal.
"During questioning, Rafiq said he was connected with the ISI but had decided to call it a day and remain in India," agency report added.
Rafiq is currently being questioned by Research and Analysis Wing.
On Friday evening, Pakistan media claimed that stories are being concocted to counter recent confession of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesperson Ehsanullah Ehsan, who claimed that terrorism in Pakistan was being supported by RAW and Afghan NDS.
"As the TTP's former spokesperson Ehsanullah Ehsan's confessions about being on Indian payroll for fomenting terrorism in Pakistan have substantiated Pakistan's claims, India seems to have chosen a serious offence for it," Daily Pakistan Global claimed in a report.
