Devotees in thousands throng Hazratbal shrine

SRINAGAR, Apr 28: Friday following Mehraj Un Nabi (SAW) was observed across Kashmir valley today with religious fervour and gaiety.
On the auspicious eve devotees in thousands from across the valley thronged the shrines, mosques and other religious places of valley to offer the obeisance and participate in Friday congregational prayers.
Across the Srinagar city, the mosques and shrines remained abuzz with religious gatherings where clerics delivered sermons over the essence of the holy occasion of Mehraj Un Nabi (SAW) and prayed for peace in Kashmir.
The largest congregational prayer was held at Hazratbal shrine here in Srinagar where people in thousands swarmed to offer prayers and have a glimpse of the holy relic of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
Holy relic of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was displayed at the shrine after every prayer.
Since early in the morning devotees in huge numbers including men, women and children arrived at Hazratbal shrine to offer the Friday prayers and prayed for peace in kashmir valley.
Amid the presence of thousands of devotees congregational prayers were offered at the shrine which was followed by display of the holy relic.
Devotees in huge numbers had assembled in Hazratbal shrine on Thursday night to participate in night long prayers.
The streets across the Hazratbal area witnessed huge hustle and bustle of people while vendors in large numbers had erected their stalls selling different varieties of snacks, eatables and other items.
"We raised our hands to pray for peace to our seething valley. We prayed to Almighty to ease our sufferings and miseries. Our kashmir is going through horrible times. May God ease our pain and accept our prayers,” a group of devotees from Pulwama district of South Kashmir said.
Several govt and non-governmental organizations had erected makeshift tents to serve the people visiting the shrine.
The second largest gathering was held in Jamia Masjid Nowhatta in old Srinagar where people in large numbers thronged to participate in the congregational prayers. On this occasion religious sermon was delivered by Mirwaez Umar Farooq.
“We prayed for the peace of our valley. May Almighty answer our prayers and bless our valley with peace,” a group of devotees from North Kashmir said.
On the holy occasion of Friday following all shrines and mosques across Srinagar remained abuzz with the recitation of holy Quran, prayers and Darood Shareef.
According to reports people in large numbers from other parts of the valley including north Kashmir, south Kashmir etc visited shrines in city on the auspicious eve.
Congregation prayers were also held at shrines of Maqdoom Saheb, Dastgeer Saheb, Khanqah-e-Moula, Saeed saab Sonwar and other shrines and mosques across the city.
Congregational prayers and religious gatherings were held in mosques and shrines in Southern and northern parts of Kashmir valley.
