DUBAI, (UAE), May 11: Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) board president Thilanga Sumathipala has appealed to the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to allow the resumption of cricket between India and Pakistan teams.
The Prime Minister is on a two-day visit to Sri Lanka. "I met the Hon. Prime Minister at BMICH ( Bandarnayaka Memorial International Conference Hall) and conveyed the message to consider playing against Pakistan", Sumathipala, who is also the Deputy Speaker, said exclusively over his mobile.
There has been no international cricket in Pakistan since the terrorists attacked on a bus carrying Sri Lankan cricket team in March 2009.
"I have requested Modi to allow the bilateral series between India and Pakistani teams be held either in Dubai or in Sri Lanka.
"India is losing when Pakistan is not playing India as much as Pakistan is losing if India is not playing them", Sumathipala added.
"There is no immediate plan for our team to tour Pakistan this year but two neighbouring countries should play against each other, he added.
Sumathipala's offer to host India-Pakistan series in Sri Lanka is a fresh one though the similar offer was rejected by the Indian cricket board during Sidath Wettimuny's tenure as a chairman of the interim committee.
