6 militants killed in Uri operation: Army

SRINAGAR, May 27: Army today said that it foiled a major infiltration bid and killed six militants in Rampur sector near Line of Control in Uri area of north Kashmir.
Army officials said troops noticed suspicious movement along the LoC in Rampur sector in the early hours. The group of militants who were armed with automatic weapons were passing through the area.
The troopers challenged them, the militants fired upon the forces ensuring the encounter. Both the side exchanged heavy fire and in the exchange of fire six militants were killed.
Army also said large number of army and ammunition has also been recovered from them.
Army said that this was the second attempt in the area by militants to cross LoC. However, troopers foiled their attempt.
Army also claimed that in Rampur sector they foiled an attack by Pakistan`s Border Action Team (BAT) and killed two intruders.
