Revise PIN-code

Kashmir Times. Dated: 7/14/2017 12:14:51 AM

Dear Editor,
Present Postal-Index-Number (PIN) code system in Delhi-New Delhi adopted many decades back needs to be reallocated with large-scale changes in PIN code boundaries where areas covered by some PIN codes have much less population/ area/received postal articles while many others are comparatively too big. New PIN codes should equally divide the area covered, and PIN codes of neighbouring areas should be in serial order. Major roads, river or railway-lines should divide new PIN code zones. Rather such revised PIN code numbers can then be made base for delimitation to fix boundaries of constituencies for Municipal Corporation, Vidhaan Sabha and Lok Sabha.
Department of Posts should also communicate with all offices (private or government) situated at Sansad-Marg (New Delhi) to use Sansad-Marg in their communications rather than translated English version Parliament-Street. It is a commonly known fact that Sansad-Marg being a popular noun can and should not be translated in English as Parliament-Street.
Department of Posts has rightly abolished its earlier allocated about 50 privileged PIN-code numbers for important government-buildings, because these PIN-code numbers were practically not used by users of postal-services. But message of abolition of such privileged PIN-code numbers should be duly publicised to remove confusion. Also outdated exclusive PIN-code number 110050 for Delhi telephones has since lost relevance, ands needs to be done away in case of revising PIN-code numbers for the city.
