SRINAGAR, July 13: Train services have been suspended again for security reasons in Kashmir valley today, in view of the general strike call by separatists on the 86th death anniversary of 22 martyrs of 1931, killed during Dogra rule outside the Central Jail, Srinagar.
“We have suspended all train operations in the valley for security reasons,” a railway official said.
He said there will be no train service on Srinagar-Budgam in the central Kashmir to Baramulla in north. Similarly, all trains running on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu have been suspended.
He said decision to suspend the train service, which has become most popular mode of transport in the valley, has been taken after receiving directions from police authorities.
In the past, railway property worth crores of rupees suffered damage during demonstrations in the Valley.
Last year, the train service remained suspended for about six months due to unrest.
